About The Pink School

A Little Bit About Us

We are The Pink School. We are passionate about teaching self-care and alternative wellness practices in a non-ableist and inclusive way. We lead masterclasses and courses for wellness professionals, run restorative events for private clients and the community and teach little un's their very first self-care tools.

At the core of The Pink School v.2 is our offerings for mother's, our mum + baby groups foster an environment where women can feel nurtured, empowered and grounded through alternative healing and movement.  We are passionate about maternal mental health, and providing safe spaces for mothers and their little ones to flourish.

Our public events are curated to be safe spaces for women and queer people to feel empowered, heard and nurtured - although we host wellbeing events for all genders in our community work, our public work is focussed on creating safe environments for women and non-binary folk who often feel un-safe, under-valued or un-heard within the wellness industry.

Life is tough, and messy - we all deserve to have a tool box cram packed with ways to facilitate our own healing.

We are trying to be accessible and inclusive, but sometimes we get it wrong - if you notice anything we could improve on please reach out. We are female (AFAB and AMAB) focussed, however we adore group work with men and children - so please don't stay away if you identify as a male.

Our
Story

2013

Ella's professional journey began with a career in marketing which abruptly ended 5 years later with the first (of a few) mental health crisis'. From here, her own "healing journey" began. Absolutely inspired by alternative therapy she took the first step to retrain to be a Holistic Therapist. The rest is history.

Ella is neuro-divergent and lives with chronic physical and mental health conditions, it became increasingly apparent to her how inaccesible and ableist the wellness industry is.

2021

The Pink Room opened in 2021 as the UK's very first space dedicated to empowering women , queer people and making wellness accesible. Located in the heart of the city in The Corn Exchange. We spent 18 months smashing the patriarchy, supporting indie female makers and facilitating healing in our little safe space.

Therapies

We thrived together as a collective of practitioners with the same ethos - to provide inclusive therapies and strive to make healing accessible.

We were able to work with charities close to our hearts, like Shantosha Womens Refuge, Mermaids Charity, Refuge and Leeds LGBT Consortium and were absolutely stoked to receive funding from Live Well Leeds so we could offer reduced cost therapies and workshops for the people of Leeds

The Shop

Our gorgeous shop was curated with the most gorgeous stuff exclusively from indie queer and female owned businesses and was a sight to behold. It was a big 18 months, we went fast and hard with BIG dreams to make change from the day we opened - until the day we moved in March 2023 when Ella's own personal battles became too much to continue with the business in it's exisiting model. So it was time to take a break, ruminate and have another baby.

Hiya, my name is Ella (she/her) and I own The Pink School

I am so glad you found this page, somehow through the noise and my limited SEO abilities you made it here. YAY!

I am The Pink School, sometimes I collaborate with other practitioners that I respect and trust but largely it is just me.

If you read the timeline above, you'll have seen some of my story. I think the most important thing about The Pink School is my story. The fact that I have years of experience as a practitioner but also my own lived experience as someone with chronic mental and physical health struggles, plus a load of time in marketing and owning a bricks and mortar wellness business (in a pandemic) - it's these things that make what I have to say valuable.

Yes, I have loads of qualifications and membership to a governing body but most people can say that. What makes The Pink School unique is my drive to make the lives of other people living with chronic illness easier.

I will never claim to be able to fix, or to heal you but I can empower you, or your people/patients/children, with the tools and information to facilitate your/their own healing. I can teach other practitioners how to hold space for people with complex needs.  I can teach other businesses how to let go of the fear of saying the wrong thing, so that they can open their arms to the people they want to reach.

What the People Say

Ella drinking tea and smiling in The Pink Room therapy space. Woman with brown hair, holding a cup and laughing.
"My favourite place in Leeds! I have had massages with Ella and Reiki healing with Frances and both are incredible therapists who take the time to understand your needs and tune into your energy. They are both super helpful and try their best to accommodate your needs and are super inclusive and attentive. I always feel so much better after their therapies."

FAQs

Accessibility + Comfort

We always strive to use venues which are fully accessible, the accessibility of every venue is outlined on the booking page. If you have specific needs and would like reassurance that we can support them please do not hesitate to contact us hello@thepinkschool.co.uk

Gender Diversity + Trauma Awareness

Ella has a huge amount of experience working within the LGBTQ+ community and is incredibly conscious of gender inclusive language and accessibility. We are very aware that the wellness world uses a lot of language around the "divine feminie" and a lot of references to the womb, we do not use this vocabulary at The Pink School.

We are also aware that some aspects of the wellness world can be incredibly insensitive to how trauma is handled, as such we will always seek permission before giving modifications that use touch and only seek information about triggers strictly on a need to know basis, for your own safety.
